Esther Dain, daughter of Marion and Cynthia Dain, was born near Darlington, Ind Jan 10, 1869, died at her home in Brook Jan 18, 1919 age 50 years and 8 days.  July 67, 1904 she was united in marriage to Sherman Hess to this union was born one son Dain.  The husband and father was called to his eternal home March 25, 1910.  Early in life she united with the ME Church at Kirkpatrick, Ind when coming to Brook she united with the United Brethren Church.  Her life has been one of devotion and service. She had a rich Christian experience, always striving for higher attainments in the Christian world. Her greatest desire was to see every Christian live an exemplary life. She was an active worker in the Missionary Association of the church being the President until her health would not permit. She was the first to speak to her pastor about the church doing some special work which led to the support of a pastor in the Home Missionary Field. Whether her work was finished or not God has called her to her crowning, she has joined the loved one of only a few years ago.  She leaves to mourn one son, Dain, a mother, two sisters, Mrs. Mina Ghere, Mrs. Linda Isfalt, three brother, Charles, John and Elsworth and other relatives and friends.  In her going she will be missed in the home and in the church but our loss is her gain.
